🕊️ Intro Whisper:
When satellites ride a shared spine, the sky becomes a space for many to dream.
🔹 Key Highlights: Satellite Bus as a Service (SBaaS) Initiative Launched by IN-SPACe
- Launched by: Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe)
- SBaaS = Satellite Bus as a Service
- Objective: Empower Indian private companies to develop modular satellite buses
- Target: Reduce import dependence & become a global provider of small satellite services
🧱 What is a Satellite Bus?
- The core structure of a satellite
- Supports power, thermal control, propulsion, communication
- Payload (camera, radar, sensors, etc.) rides atop the bus
- Like a universal chassis → allows flexibility for various missions
🧪 SBaaS Rollout – Phased Implementation
- Phase I:
- Shortlist 4 Non-Governmental Entities (NGEs)
- Develop modular, multi-mission satellite-bus platforms
- Phase II:
- IN-SPACe to support 2 hosted-payload missions
- Validate performance of the developed platforms in orbit
📤 Application & Timeline
- Open to eligible Indian NGEs
- Register by: May 15
- Proposal Deadline: June 23
- IN-SPACe acts as regulator + facilitator
🌍 Strategic Benefits
- Encourages Make in India for Space
- Reduces launch delays and development costs
- Supports start-ups & MSMEs in payload development
- Positions India as a service hub for hosted payloads globally
🧭 Concept Explainer:
Satellite Bus as a Service is like building a shared transport platform in orbit — allowing smaller companies to plug-and-play their ideas without building an entire satellite. It enables a future where space is modular, economical, and inclusive.
It’s not just about launching satellites — it’s about launching possibilities.
