13 New Global Industrial Clusters Join WEF’s Net-Zero Transition Initiative

Thirteen industrial clusters from across the world—including India, Australia, Colombia, and the Netherlands—have joined the World Economic Forum’s Transitioning Industrial Clusters Initiative, launched at COP26. This brings the total to 33 clusters across 16 countries, uniting industry hubs to slash emissions and foster sustainable economic growth.

🏭 What Is the Transitioning Industrial Clusters Initiative?

  • Launched: COP26, 2021
  • Mission: To help geographically concentrated industrial regions cut greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining economic growth and job creation
  • These clusters represent industries, institutions, and infrastructure working together for clean transitions

🌱 Environmental Impact

  • Combined, the 33 clusters could cut 832 million tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually
  • That’s nearly equivalent to Saudi Arabia’s total annual emissions
  • Shows how regional collaboration can yield global climate benefits

💰 Economic Significance

  • Clusters contribute $492 billion to global GDP
  • Provide 4.3 million jobs worldwide
  • They highlight how climate action can go hand-in-hand with economic resilience and development
