🗡️ A List of Achievements—And Shadows Behind Them

On April 20, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared what he framed as a list of military “achievements” in the Gaza conflict, now entering its 18th month. The list includes:

  • Return of 80% of the hostages taken on October 7, 2023
  • A 99% drop in rocket attacks from Gaza
  • Elimination of key Hamas leaders: Mohammed Deif, Yahya Sinwar, and Ismail Haniyeh
  • 20,000 Hamas fighters reported killed
  • Israeli control over parts of Mount Hermon, and deep strikes into Syria and Lebanon
  • Claimed destruction of Iran’s airbase and weakening of Hezbollah’s infrastructure

💣 The Human Cost

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, over 51,000 Palestinians have been killed, including many women and children. Nearly 90% of Gaza’s population is now displaced. The humanitarian toll has been catastrophic:

  • Massive destruction of food, medical, and civic infrastructure
  • Collapse of essential services
  • Global outcry and growing domestic dissent within Israel

🌍 A Regional Wildfire

The conflict has spilled beyond borders:

  • Hezbollah activity in southern Lebanon has decreased, but strikes in Syria and tensions in Yemen continue
  • Iran-backed militias remain involved across the region
  • Lebanese authorities arrested individuals planning fresh rocket attacks into Israel
  • The UN and global actors call for a ceasefire, but none appears in sight

🗣️ Voices of Dissent

Despite government claims, public discontent is rising:

“Thank you for putting out 80% of the fire you started…”
“70% of Israelis despise you… all we want is the hostages home—even if it ends the war.”

Netanyahu’s hardline resolve aligns with the far-right coalition, but the chorus for peace, both international and domestic, grows louder with each airstrike.
